Did you know that yoga can act like the medicine cabinet you have in your home?
For today's Mindful Monday, I want to talk about how yoga is so much more than just poses—it is a collection of mindfulness, breathing, and movement tools designed to support you through whatever you are experiencing.
Just like you reach for a specific remedy for a headache or a cold, you can reach for a specific yoga tool for your physical or emotional needs. You don't always need a 60-minute class; sometimes, you just need a two-minute "prescription."
Reach for Your Remedy
The next time you feel out of balance, consider these tools from your internal medicine cabinet:
Feeling Stuck or Sluggish?
Try a movement like the Zen Swing or Breath of Joy. It only takes a couple of minutes standing up to move stagnant energy, increase circulation, and completely shift your mood.
Feeling Anxious or Stressed?
Use a breathing technique like Candle Breath. Inhale deeply through the nose and take a very long, slow exhale through the mouth (as if you are blowing on a candle) to signal your nervous system to calm down.
Have a Hurting Back?
Try a variation of Downward Facing Dog. You don’t even have to get on the floor! Use a wall or the back of a chair to create length in your spine and find immediate relief from the compression of daily life.
Write Your Own Prescription
The next time you’re facing a challenge—whether it's a tight muscle or a heavy emotion—I invite you to pause and ask yourself:
"What prescription can I give to myself from my yoga medicine cabinet?"
