Each and every day, you get to make a choice. It is a conscious choice to show up exactly as you are—or to hide behind a mask.
For today’s Mindful Monday, I’m sharing a concept I often speak about in my keynote presentations: the tools for living an authentic life. We often think authenticity is just a static trait—something we either have or don't—but in reality, authenticity is a practice. It is something we must choose, over and over again, in any given moment.
Are You Wearing a Mask?
Throughout the day, we are presented with so many opportunities to be ourselves, yet we often fall into roles or "molds" that feel safer than showing our true hearts. Do you recognize any of these?
The "I'm Fine" Mask: Answering "How are you?" with a pretend smile and a quick "Fine!" when things aren't actually okay.
The Role Play: Acting only as the "Mom," the "Yoga Teacher," or the "Employee," thinking we have to behave in a way that fits a specific mold rather than allowing our true personality to shine through the role.
The Pretense: Hiding our genuine feelings or opinions just to fit in or make others feel more comfortable.
Your Practice This Week
Living authentically doesn't mean you have to change your life; it means you change how you show up to your life. I invite you to pause throughout your day and ask yourself one simple question:
"Am I being true to myself in this moment?"
