Stop Waiting for the "Perfect Time" (The Myth of the Moved Obstacle)

How many times have you said to yourself, "I’ll start taking care of myself as soon as this one thing is resolved"?

Today’s message is simple but urgent: Don't wait. We often convince ourselves that once a specific "rock in the road" is moved—once the big project is done, the injury is healed, or the kids are back in school—we will finally have the time or energy to sign up for that yoga class or start a meditation habit. But the truth is, as soon as one rock is moved, another one usually takes its place. Life is a roller coaster of ups and downs—that is simply the nature of being alive.

The Resilience Trap

We often treat self-care like a reward for when life is finally "easy." We think we need to wait for the "up" part of the roller coaster to practice mindfulness.

In reality, we need these tools most when the roller coaster is dipping down. Self-care isn't the prize at the finish line; it’s the fuel that helps you run the race. It is the foundation that makes you resilient when life feels heavy. If you wait for the path to be perfectly clear, you might be waiting forever.

Your Practice This Week

I invite you to stop negotiating with your well-being. Try these three steps to break the cycle of "waiting":

  1. Identify your "When/Then": Notice if you are saying, "When [X] happens, then I'll start [Y]." Recognizing this pattern is the first step to breaking it.

  2. Do the thing now: Don't wait for a 60-minute window. Whether it’s five minutes of deep breathing, a short stretch in a chair, or finally clicking "register" for that class—start today.

  3. Get Support: Don't try to move the rocks alone. Find the tools and the community that help you stay grounded regardless of the obstacles in your path.

Who needs to hear this today? If you know someone who is waiting for the "perfect time" to prioritize themselves, please share this post with them.

I hope you have a beautiful, "do-it-now" kind of day. Namaste.
