Morning Wake-Up & Organ Massage Twist

What's a really good way to wake yourself up in the morning and give your body a gentle massage at the same time?

Today’s tip for living a mindful life is excellent for stimulating your organs and calming your nervous system.

This simple exercise is a wonderful practice to try first thing in the morning, even before your coffee!

The Morning Twist Practice

  1. Start: Stand with your feet grounded, about hip-width apart, and your arms relaxed at your sides. Feel solid on the earth.

  2. Sway & Twist: Begin to gently sway from side to side, gradually increasing the sway until your torso naturally begins to twist.

  3. Self-Massage: As you twist, allow your relaxed arms to move freely and tap your body. Your forearms and hands will press along the front and back of your body, creating a gentle, internal massage. This rhythmic tapping stimulates your internal organs and gets all your systems waking up.

  4. Keep Gaze Forward: Keep your head facing straight ahead. This prevents dizziness and allows the twist to travel all the way from the top of your head down to the base of your spine.

After a few moments of twisting, slowly unwind and come out of the movement the same way you came in—by gradually slowing the movement down until your arms are back by your side.

When you're done, take a moment to be still. Sit down if you wish and notice the sensations: feel your body waking up and your systems activated.

I encourage you to try this practice every morning this week. It only takes a few moments and can truly change the start of your day by providing energy and a sense of calm.
